Job Opportunities at CSLU
The Center for Spoken Language Understanding (CSLU) at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is currently seeking a Child Psychologist with experience evaluating children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism (ASD), Developmental Language Disorders (DLD), and ADHD. The position is currently a part-time position (20 to 25 hour per week). CSLU, located at the OGI Beaverton campus of OHSU, is involved in a number of research projects in which novel speech and language technologies are being developed and applied to improve diagnosis and intervention with different neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. One study, for example, is investigating expressive and receptive prosody issues and their impact on communicative and social competence in young children with ASD and DLD; another is using newly developed computerized methods for diagnosis and differentiation of executive function deficits in ADHD. See project description. Responsibilities of the position include administering psychological and neuropsychological protocols, participating in differential diagnostic decisions, and interviewing and providing feedback to families. The position also includes the possibility of generating new research projects and becoming part of CSLU's active research community. We welcome candidates who have a Ph.D. in Psychology, as well as candidates who are close to obtaining the Ph.D. Experience evaluating young children with neurodevelopmental disorders is critical. Experience in neuropsychological assessment is a real plus; so, too, is experience diagnosing ASD and in using the ADOS. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with training and experience. OHSU also provides comprehensive, affordable and customizable benefits for its employees, including medical, dental, retirement, and educational benefits. Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, two clinical report samples, and the names of three references to Lois Black, Ph.D., Senior Scientist, Center for Spoken Language Understanding, 20000 N.W. Walker Road, Beaverton, Oregon 97006 or via e-mail to Lois Black. Inquiries for more information are welcome at 503-748-7033. The position is a part-time position (20 to 25 hour per week). CSLU, located at the OGI Beaverton campus of OHSU, has been awarded an NIH research grant to investigate and compare communication issues in children with ASD, DLD, and typically developing children, ages 4-7. This is an exciting project that will also explore the heterogeneity of children on the spectrum, and with language disorders, through neuropsychological subtyping. It will use unique new computerized technologies to tap into prosodic deficits, both receptive and expressive, and investigate how they may impact a child's communicative competence and social reciprocity. We anticipate funding for additional, related projects in the near future. We will consider advanced students, recent graduates, as well as more senior professionals.
